ASG Member Linked in Lunsman Kidnapping Arrested

Zamboanga City - A member of the Basilan based Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) under Furiji Indama was arrested during a joint police operation conducted by government operatives including Zamboanga City Police Office together with 84th Special Action Company-Special Action Force, Regional Intelligence Unit 9, PCTC, SPMKI, and OCPNP at Barangay Sta. Catalina near the Regional Medical Center at about 4:00 PM on September 25, 2015.

The ASG member was identified as Wajir Arijani a.k.a. "Abu Miqtad/ Muhajid Wajir". Arrested ASG member has an existing warrant of arrest for kidnapping and serious illegal detention docketed under Criminal Case No. 27263 issued by Judge Peter Eisma. The arrested man is also involved in the kidnapping of Jerfa Lunsman, a Filipina-American national and her son Kevin on June 12, 2010. The arrest was made after a long period of pursuit and surveillance by the intelligence community that finally pinpointed his location. He is presently in the custody of Zamboanga City Police Office.
