Suspect Nabbed for Piñan Chairwoman Shooting

Zamboanga del Norte - A cellphone call from a concerned citizen to Piñan Municipal Police Station reported about a shooting incident that transpired along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion South, Piñan at about 8:20 AM on February 26, 2016. 

Responding PNP personnel identified the victim as Ledna Semona y Melancio, 33, the chairwoman of Barangay Ubay, of said municipality, who was shot to death with a caliber .45 pistol by an unidentified suspect. The victim was hit on her stomach, right chest and left side of her body, which led to her instantaneous death. Recovered from the crime scene were two caliber .45 empty shells and a slug. Pursuit and follow-up operations conducted by Piñan MPS resulted in the arrest of the suspect later identified as Jonathan Versis Montano, 43, resident of Sitio Sicoco, Barangay Del Pilar of same municipality. Recovered from the suspect was the Colt MK IV caliber .45 pistol bearing serial number 436733 believed to be used during the crime. Suspect was arrested in his residence and is now detained at Piñan MPS.
