This is in connection with the latest atrocity committed by the New People’s Army in the municipality of Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental on May 29, 2016. According to witnesses' accounts, fifty heavily-armed men on board three pick-up trucks and one Elf truck attacked the said Municipal Hall and Police Station. Initially the NPA ordered the police personnel there to lay down their arms. This resulted to a firefight that lasted for two hours after the police personnel allegedly run out of ammunition and were forced to surrender

Consequently, the rebels took station commander PCINSP ARNOLD ONGACHEN and fled, while PO3 John Rey Cinco and a civilian were wounded in the attack. The PNP strongly condemns the recent atrocities by the CNN against police personnel who were in the performance of their legal mandate. Likewise the PNP denounces the activities of the NPA which clearly indicates their gross violation of human rights and their vicious campaign of terror and chaos to the community.

On the other hand, the PNP is now intensifying its efforts as it works hand-in-hand with AFP to locate and rescue PCINSP ARNOLD ONGACHEN who was kidnapped by the rebels.

Furthermore, the PNP assures that justice will be served upon the perpetrators.

Moreover, in consonance with the PNP's anti-insurgency drive and its resolve for peace and order, all police stations in the area and nationwide have been directed to immediately implement stringent security measures, to be well equipped, to conduct checkpoints and to remain alert at all times.

Nevertheless, the PNP remains unwavering and steadfast in its support to the peace process in consonance with government's resolve to talk and achieve peace with the rebels.
