The 1st Maneuver Company of RPSB9 received a tip from an informant that a black Nissan car with plate number VBL 541 with male passengers traveling from Dipolog City to Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay are alleged couriers of illegal drugs. At about 3:00 PM of same date, a team from said unit conducted a checkpoint along the national highway in Brgy. Overview, Liloy, ZN to intercept the said vehicle.
At about 3:50 PM of same date, as the PNP personnel doing the checkpoint were about to flag down the target vehicle when it was about to pass the dragnet, the vehicle accelerated and opened fire at the PNP personnel. This prompted them to return fire which resulted in the death of the two passenger suspects and the wounding of the other one, who was later declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at a hospital in Liloy.
Initial investigation disclosed that the three suspects were identified as Anwar Silan Sawadjaan, 19, Angelo Hofer, 22, and Noel Rey Bacalzo, all residents of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. Said suspects were on board a black 4x4 Nissan SUV with plate No. VBL 541. Also recovered in the scene were a caliber .45 pistol and a caliber .38 revolver, both of which were loaded, and several spent cartridges from said weapons. The cadavers of the suspects are now interred at a funeral home in Brgy Fatima, Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte for proper disposition.
At about 11:20 PM on July 29, 2016, investigation and crime scene processing conducted by Liloy MPS and the SOCO revealed that that the recovered black pick-up color with with engine no. QD32-155479, chassis no. CVRULFAD22 B01 238, is owned by Doring Saabbaha Sawadjaan, 60, the father of suspect Anwar. Ten small sachets and a large pack of shabu, one hand grenade, twenty-five caliber 5.56mm shells, and two cellular phones were recovered.
