Criminal Group Leader "Commander Maas" Killed in Police Operation, 2 Others Arrested

Combined operatives of Regional Intelligence Unit 9, 84th Special Action Company-Seaborne-PNP SAF, NICA 9, Regional Intelligence Division 9, Zamboanga Sibugay PPO-Intelligence Branch, Provincial Public Safety Company-Zamboanga Sibugay and Alicia MPS conducted a law enforcement operation for the serving of warrant of arrest in Sitio Tarla-Tarla, Barangay Tampalan, Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay at around 3:00 AM on February 18, 2017.

The operation resulted in the death of a criminal group leader identified as Yasin Karim alias “Imam Yasin” / “Commander Manbing” / “Commander Maas”, and the arrest of two others identified as Aujae Mohammad Abdulkarim and Morad Mohammad Abdulkarim. During the operation, a firefight ensued between the group of Imam Yasin and the operating units, resulting in the death of the gang leader after they resisted arrest following the service of arrest warrant against them. A personnel from the Special Action Company-Seaborne (PNP SAF) identified as PO2 Larry Falitnang was wounded during the operation. The cadaver of Imam Yasin and the two arrested individuals were taken to Zamboanga Sibugay PPO for proper disposition. The operation was made based on the warrant of arrest against Karim for two counts of murder filed under Criminal Case Number I-4254 issued by Presiding Judge Reuben Maraon of RTC 9, Branch 31, Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay.
