Dreaded Andi Group Leader Killed in Law Enforcement Operation (Update)

Operatives of Zamboanga Del Sur Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB-ZDS), Lapuyan MPS, Zamboanga Del Sur Public Safety Company (ZSPPSC), PDEA, NISG and 12th MICO, conducted a law enforcement operation in Brgy Pampang, Lapuyan, Zamboanga Del Sur at about 10:50 AM on March 6, 2017. Pahad Andi, the leader of the Andi Criminal Gang, was sighted at the residence of his parents in Bar Pampang, Lapuyan, Zamboanga Del Sur by the tracker team at about 8:00 AM on March 6, 2017.

Government forces were immediately dispatched to the place by land and sea. When Andi sensed the presence of the operating units, he fired towards the operating units that eventually led to firefight that lasted for around 30 minutes. Overwhelmed by the superiority of the government forces, Andi withdrew to the sea. While escaping, he threw a hand grenade to the operating units but it did not explode. Said unexploded grenade was eventually recovered by the EOD team the following day.

While at the sea, Andi exchanged shots with the operating troops, but he his head was hit which apparently killed him and fell to the water. The operating units failed to recover his body that day, despite efforts from three navy divers who were utilized for the retrieval operation. The heated gun battle also wounded two PNP personnel identified as PINSP ANJELO ACUZAR and PO2 Jerome Tare. Said PNP personnel were evacuated to the hospital for treatment and is now in stable condition.

Continued search by government troops led to the recovery of Andi’s cadaver floating  near the residence of his parents. The operatives recovered a cal .45 pistol with defaced serial number with two live ammunitions, one fragmentation grenade, four sachets of suspected shabu, drug paraphernalia, black bandolier back pack, one PNP camouflage green uniform with PRO-ARMM logo and one camouflage sling bag from the cadaver. Pahad Andi sustained a gunshot wound on his head which caused his death.

Andi was listed as the no. 2 High Value Target (Regional Level) on illegal drugs and also the No. 1 Most Wanted Person (Regional Level). The Andi Group is involved in the proliferation of illegal drugs in Lapuyan, Dinas, Margosatubig and other neighboring municipalities. The group is also involved in kidnapping, gun-for-hire, robbery, and extortion activities in the Baganian Peninsula.
