Elements of Vitali Police Station conducted a police operation after a group of male individuals were allegedly seen carrying short firearms and indiscriminately fired it at Merloquet Falls in Barangay Sibulao, Zamboanga City at about 2:45 PM on May 10, 2017.
Accordingly, said group of men have gone for a swim at Merloquet Falls. Witnesses reported that they saw in the cottage rented by the trio two handguns on top of a wooden bench, while another handgun was seen on top of a wooden table slightly covered with short pants, another handgun was seen on top of a backpack of placed on the lap of one of the suspects. Vitali Police Station cordoned the area and asked a series of questions on the suspects to verify the ownership of the guns, wherein they failed to present the necessary documents for their firearms.
Seized from their possession were a Para-Ordnance cal. 45 pistol with serial number 118401 loaded with six rounds of ammo, an Armscor cal. 45 pistol with serial number 1284228 loaded with five rounds of ammos, a Colt cal. 45 pistol with serial number 820359 loaded with six rounds of ammo, and a Colt cal. 45 pistol with serial number 617449 loaded with five rounds of ammos.
The suspects were identified as Julbert Suribas y Barnizo, 31, resident of Gate 1, Phase 2, Katatagan, Upper Calarian, Mijal Jalon y Jainuddin, 33, of Bincul, Brgy. Mangusu, and Nurkim Latip y Jalon, 20, of Brgy. Mangusu, all in Zamboanga City. The suspects are presently detained at ZCPS1 pending the filing of charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition (RA 10591). The recovered items were submitted to the Regional Crime Laboratory Office 9 for ballistics examination.
