Illegal Fishermen Held in Sibutad, Siay

Operatives of Sibutad MPS conducted an anti-illegal fishing operation off the coast of Barangay Calube, Sibutad, Zamboanga Del Norte at about 10:00 AM on August 2, 2017.

Three violators identified as Helly Gordiones Alum, 28, Leoncio Cardenio QuiƱones, 48, and Michael Mamenta QuiƱones, 38, all residents of Purok 3, Barangay Libay of said municipality, were caught engaged in illegal fishing using fish net that is not prescribed under Municipal Ordinance Number 02 series of 2003. Confiscated from them were several fishing equipment, a boat engine, and an ice box containing around five kilograms of fish. Subject persons are temporarily detained at Sibutad MPS for proper disposition.


Combined elements of Siay MPS, a civic volunteer group, and Bantay-Dagat conducted a seaborne patrol in Barangay Laih, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay at about 3:00 AM on August 2, 2017. This resulted in the apprehension of three fishermen engaged in illegal fishing. They were identified as Lito Borres Brillantes, 47, Faisal Cabato Borres, 28, Wendil Beronda Betamor, 38, residents of Ipil municipality. Confiscated from them were a motorized pump boat, and unauthorized fishing materials. The apprehended individuals and the confiscated fishing paraphernalia were brought to Siay MPS for proper disposition.
