Arrest of Army Personnel Tagged in Shooting Incident

A shooting incident occurred at the vicinity of Edwin Andrews Airbase in Barangay Sta. Maria, Zamboanga City wherein the victims were identified as Mrs. Sahaba Abdulla y Antao, 32, businesswoman, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the different parts of her body while her nephew Ahmad Wahab y Antao, 21, incurred gunshot wounds to his right arm and left chest.

Another victim named Radzmalyn Hassan y Antao, 37, was shot on her left chest.  All victims are resident of Pasay-Masiay, Brgy. San Roque, this city. The suspect was wearing a black jacket onboard a motorcycle who later fled to an unknown direction after the incident. Investigation disclosed that at about 4:30 AM on August 26, 2017, the victims were riding an XRM motorcycle enroute to said military facility when they were shot by the gunman identified as Bensaudi Idjal, a member of the Philippine Army assigned in Malagutay, this city. According to Mrs. Sahaba Abdulla, the suspect is also a resident in their barangay, and a relative of her late husband Alyaser Abdulla who was a killed in action in Marawi City. Recovered at the crime scene were nine spent cal .45 empty shells and three slugs. The possible motive of the shooting is the issue on benefit claims considering that the victim is the second wife of the slain soldier. At about 2:00 PM on August 26, 2017, personnel of Zamboanga City Police Station 7 took into custody the suspect named Sgt. Bensaudi Idjal y Malimtujah, 40, native of Kumalarang, Zamboanga Del Sur, a member of the Philippine Army assigned with the Civil Military Operations Group. The suspect was arrested in Camp Gen. Arturo T. Enrile in Malagutay at around 1:00 PM in coordination with said army unit. Furthermore, the suspect have undergone paraffin test in preparation for the filling appropriate charges in court.
