Police Chief Superintendent Edgar Orduña Basbas, Acting Regional Director, will grace the opening ceremony of PRO 9 Summer Sportsfest 2015, scheduled to kick-off on Tuesday morning, May 12, 2015 at Camp Col. Romeo A Abendan, Mercedes, Zamboanga City.

The conduct of the sports festival is in line with the Sports and Health Programs of PRO 9.  Players are given time-out to flex their muscles and showcase their abilities as a brief respite from long hours of office work, tedious conduct of law enforcement activities, and most of all, to foster camaraderie among personnel.

Part of the opening ceremony will be the parade of the players of the different teams with their respective muses, from the assembly place to the PRO 9 Multi-Purpose Hall where the program proper will be held. It will be highlighted by the search for Miss PRO 9 Summer Sportrsfest, wherein lovely muses of different teams will be presented.  The winner will receive cash prizes and sash.

This year’s sportsfest is expected to be more exciting.  Each game is forecasted to be hotly contested, especially basketball, since all teams have a strong line-up.  The tournament will be participated by six teams to be led by RHQ A and RHQ B of the Regional Headquarters, Regional Public Safety Battalion 9, Zamboanga City Police Office, 55th PNP Special Action Force Battalion, and PRO 9 Regional Support Units.

The games to be contested are basketball - for men only, volleyball - for women only, lawn tennis - for men only, singles and doubles, badminton - for men, women and mixed doubles categories.  Likewise, a shooting competition is also part of the said sportsfest activities.

The first basketball game will be played right after the opening ceremony, between PNP Special Action Force and RD Team.

The venue of all games, except lawn tennis will be in Camp Abendan. The events will be played every afternoon during athletic days only. The venue of the lawn tennis games will be at PRO 9 Lawn Tennis Court located in Camp Gen. Eduardo A. Batalla, Justice RT Lim Boulevard, Zamboanga City.

The closing ceremony will be highlighted with the 17-Kilometer Mountain Bike Challenge. To entice the PRO 9 bike enthusiasts to participate in the said challenge, a new mountain bike will be set as a prize for the winner.  The time trial to reach the finish line must be below one hour. Finishers of this bike challenge are qualified to join the raffle to be drawn during the closing ceremony. Cash prizes together with trophies will also be given to the champion teams and runners-up teams.
