More or less 800 PNP personnel based in Zamboanga City participated in the Zamboanga City “5K Peace and Freedom Run” held on May 24, 2015 at the Climaco Freedom Park, Abong-Abong, Barangay Pasonanca, Zamboanga City.
The said event was organized by the City Government of Zamboanga in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos and Fit Team Zamboanga to advocate peace and corruption-free Zamboanga City, as well as physical fitness and care for the environment.
The PNP contingent composed of personnel from the PRO9 Regional Headquarters, Regional Public Safety Battalion 9, Zamboanga City Police Office and Regional Special Training Unit 9, spearheaded by Police Chief Superintendent Edgar O. Basbas, is the biggest contingent among the participants coming from the different local government offices, Armed Forces of the Philippines, youth sector and students from different schools and universities.
The first 1,000 registered participants were given free running jersey and bull cap. Prior the start of the run, a short program was conducted to orient the runners on the route of the 5K run and emphasize the essence of the holding of said activity, then followed by the Zumba as warm-up exercise led by Zamboanga City Mayor Isabelle Climaco-Salazar.
Meanwhile, elements of Zamboanga City Police Office provided extensive security package to ensure an orderly and safe conduct of the event. The PNP is committed in its support to the Zamboanga City Government.
