Police Regional Office 9 joins the entire nation in the celebration of 117th Philippine Independence Day.  In the morning of June 12, 2015, the flag raising ceremony was simultaneously conducted by all PNP units in the entire Zamboanga Peninsula.

The personnel of the Police Regional Office 9 Headquarters commemorated the 117th Independence Day at Camp Col. Romeo A. Abendan in Zamboanga City. Police Chief Superintendent Edgar Orduña Basbas, Acting Regional Director, led the celebration that was highlighted by the flag raising, followed by a short program.

With this year’s theme, “Kalayaan 2015: Tagumpay Sa Pagababagong Nasimulan, Abot-Kamay Na Ng Bayan”, the Filipinos have the reason to celebrate the Freedom Day Anniversary which was achieved a century and seventeen years ago from the hands of the conquistadores.

The freedom we enjoy now was not given to the Filipino people on a silver platter. There were lots of sacrifices and several lives lost just to attain it.  We owe it to our forefathers who went through these sacrifices just to give us the freedom we are now reaping.

One hundred and seventeen years later, we pay a fitting tribute to the courage and firm resolve of our forebears to see the country free from foreign control. Their gallant stand against colonial rule allowed the first republic in Asia to be established in our shores and paved the way for present-day Filipinos to enjoy the blessings of freedom and democracy.

On the part of the National Headquarters, Police Deputy Director General Eduardo Espina, Officer-In-Charge of the PNP, in his message, he stressed that the 117th Year of Philippine Independence is an opportune time for the police force to reaffirm the professional commitment to uphold law and order, and help our government achieve lasting peace and sustainable progress.  The PNP stands proud with the Filipino people in building a nation that shall embody our aspirations for freedom and democracy.

The OIC, PNP considers the men and women of the PNP who continuously perform their duty with loyalty, dedication and pride as contemporary heroes of our time who shares the same vision for a free and a just society under an independent, strong and progressive country.

To ensure the successful celebration, the entire Police Regional Office 9 was placed on full alert status a day before the commemoration of the Philippine Independence Day.  Police personnel were deployed in all places of engagements to maximize police presence in order that tranquility will reign as the people commemorate the Independence Day in Zamboanga Peninsula.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
