Camp Col Romeo A Abendan, Zamboanga City – Selected local farmers from a far-flung Barangay in Zamboanga City benefited from the PRO9 "Amor Para Con El Mga Siembrador" (Love Drive for Farmers), a project recently launched by PRO9 which aims at helping the local farmers find ways to earn for a living amid the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).
PBGEN FROILAN F QUIDILLA, Regional Director, PRO9 said that a total of Php 10,000 worth of vegetable products were bought from the local farmers in Barangay Bungiao, Zamboanga City whose livelihood have been affected from the time the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) took effect last March 16, 2020 as some local farmers could not transport and sell their vegetables to the markets.
The essence of the activity is to provide an alternative means for farmers in disposing their products as it is almost impossible for them to bring their goods to local market because of the ECQ, he added.
A team from the Regional Community Affairs Development Division and Zamboanga City Police Station 3 facilitated the activity in coordination with the association of local farmers in Barangay Bungiao, Zamboanga City headed by Mr. Rogelio Tolentino. Among the products purchased include eggplants, okra, banana, cucumber, squash, and bell peppers.
Bungiao Barangay Chairperson Leo Resureccion stated that the said project has been very helpful to the local farmers in their locality as they are "no longer need to go out of their respective place to transport the vegetables to the local markets”.
Meanwhile, the vegetable products bought from the local farmers would be distributed along with food packs to beneficiaries of the PNP Kapwa Ko Sagot Ko - Adopt-a-Family program.
