Users are manipulated to click a hyperlink or open an attachment that will eventually install virus and other malware to a targeted computer, or lead to fake websites that illegally gathers personal information.
To prevent becoming a victim of this type of cyber-attack, the following measures are recommended:
- Avoid opening attachment and hyperlinks of suspicious emails and immediately delete these messages
- Change password regularly or when you suspect that the account is compromised or hacked
- Enable two-factor authentication/verification, preventing hackers from accessing your online accounts even if they somehow manage to steal your credentials. This may be in the form of a confirmatory log-in thru text message or email sent to a chosen secondary device.
