Zamboanga City - The leadership of Police Regional Office 9 condemns the killing of a policeman, a member of the 9th Maritime Group, on Wednesday morning, May 13, 2015. He was shot to death at CDCP, Barangay Sta. Catalina by an unidentified assailant with the use of caliber .45 Pistol.
The victim was identified as PO1 Jerome Habibon Alpa, 31, assigned at 9th Maritime Group, stationed in Barangay Baliwasan seaside, a resident of New Settlement, Barangay Sta. Catalina. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds on the different parts of the body which caused his untimely death.
Responding policemen from Zamboanga City Police Station 11 and Scene of the Crime Operatives from the Regional Crime Laboratory Office 9 have recovered seven caliber .45 empty shells and two slugs at the crime scene.
The City Director of Zamboanga City Police Office was directed to a conduct thorough investigation in coordination with the Regional Chief, 9th Maritime Group for the early solution of the case and to place the perpetrator and the mastermind, if there is any, behind bars.
The 9th Maritime Group is actively involved in the campaign against smuggling and kidnapping by consistently patrolling the high seas and shorelines of Zamboanga Peninsula especially in Zamboanga City. Their presence in the area has restrictcted the kidnappers in their nefarious and also led to the interception of several motor vessels loaded with smuggled rice and cigarettes. Intercepted contraband items as well as the motor boats were impounded.
The murder of PO1 Alpa, who actively participated in the campaign against smugglers, will not prevent the authorities from enforcing the laws against all forms of criminalities in Zamboanga Peninsula, most specially on smuggling and kidnapping. PRO 9, in tandem with the 9th Maritime Group, is continuously guarding the high seas and shorelines of the region against these unscrupulous groups of smugglers and kidnappers.
