The Philippine National Police joins the whole nation in celebrating Labor Day and in paying tribute to the Filipino worker. The PNP upholds the basic rights on freedom of speech and on freedom of peaceful assembly. With possible mass protests, CDM contingents were given instructions to exercise maximum tolerance but are ready for calibrated response should risks to life and limbs for both rallyists and police personnel are imminent.
On the other hand, the PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other law enforcement agencies are deputized by the COMELEC to ensure a secure, safe and fair conduct of the National and Local Elections on May 9, 2016. Since the start of the election period, all police stations are placed on heightened alert status to ensure a state of readiness in case of certain contingencies.
Also, in consonance with the PNP's support for the “Ligtas SUMVAC 2016” program, PRO9 will continue to ensure the safety and security of both local and foreign tourists.
Furthermore, the PRO9 leadership calls for the public’s support and cooperation to prevent untoward incidents during the Labor Day Celebration, and the synchronized national and local elections and to report any suspicious persons, activities and unusual occurrences to the nearest police station or through social media (Twitter - @PNP_PRO9 or Facebook Page – Police Regional Office 9) or through the following: Dial 117 or text 2920 and I-Report Mo Kay TSIP 0917-8475-757.
