In the implementation of “Project Double Barrel”, for the period of July 1 to September 29, 2016, PRO9 was able to knock and visit a total of 103,344 houses in Zamboanga Peninsula. Out of this, 46,203 drug users and 1,976 drug pushers/couriers voluntarily surrendered to the authorities and vowed not to engage anymore in illegal drug dealings.
Meanwhile, a total of 61 drug users and 553 drug pushers were arrested during the conduct of anti-illegal drugs police operations. They will be facing a penalty of imprisonment raging from 6 years to 12 years up to life imprisonment, as the case may be, under RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
On the other hand, a total of 36 drug pushers were killed after they opted to fight the arresting policemen during the conduct of police operations, while 30 deaths of drug pushers/ personalities are now under investigation by this Office.
Sad to note of the above-cited accomplishment is the death of three police personnel who were killed during the implementation of “Project TOKHANG” while two police personnel were wounded.
As this developed, PCSUPT BILLY B BELTRAN, PRO9 Acting Regional Director urges the public to support the police in waging the war against illegal drugs.
“Our campaign against illegal drug will not be sustained if there is no support from them (community). It’s high time for us to wake up and end these illegal drug trades because these drugs ruin lives, families and the future of our children,” PCSUPT BELTRAN said.
