Two alleged members of Abu Sayyaf Group and a wanted person facing murder charges were arrested during the conduct of police operations and serving of warrant of arrest carried out by combined elements of Intelligence Branch of Zamboanga City Police Office, Zamboanga City Police Station 11, CIDM, Anti-Kidnapping Group, Task Force Zamboanga, 530W2, CTD-IG, PCTC, WMFO, SWAT, CIDU 9, Anti-Cybercrime Group, at the entrance of Atilano Pension House located in Barangay Canelar, Zamboanga City at about 2:45 PM of October 3, 2016.
The arrested wanted person was identified as Abdel Dela Cruz, wanted for Murder docketed under Criminal Case No. 1989-3 issued by Presiding Judge Betlee-Ian J Barraquias of RTC, 9th Judicial Region, Branch 3, Jolo, Sulu. Recovered from the possession of Abdel Dela Cruz were an Armscor cal .45 with serial number 218416 loaded with five rounds of live ammunitions and three more magazines loaded with five rounds of ammunition each. When Dela Cruz was arrested, his two companions hurriedly left, prompting the operating team to chase the two suspects and eventually caught up with them. They were identified as Jabar Ignohasim y Sampang, 24, resident of Bus-bus, Jolo, Sulu and Abdulla Yusup y Bakil, 27, resident of Talipao, Sulu. Recovered from Ignohasim was a backpack containing three hand grenades, a commercial detonating cord and time fuse, and two non-electric blasting caps. On the other hand, Abdulla Yusop y Bakil yielded a sling bag containing a hand grenade. Investigation disclosed that the arrested subjects are all ASG members under Jolo- based Commander Alhapsi Misaya, involved in the series of kidnapping and bombing incidents in Zamboanga City and other neighboring provinces. They were tasked to wreak havoc during the celebration of Fiesta Pilar by hurling grenades along RT Lim Boulevard, Zamboanga City and planned to kidnap a still unidentified Chinese businessman in Pasonanca, Zamboanga City. Accordingly, the three suspects arrived in the early morning of October 3, 2016 in Zamboanga City onboard the passenger vessel “Katrina” and checked–in at Salwa Hotel and Atilano’s Pension House. They were tracked down by operating units at Salwa Hotel. However, they noticed the presence of the authorities and went to Atilano Pension House, where they were arrested. Captured suspects and recovered items are taken into police custody for further investigation and proper disposition.
