2 ASG Henchmen Engaged in Sea Extortion Killed in Shootout

Combined elements of Zamboanga City Police Station 3, NAVSOU6, SBU MPAC and NISGWM were conducting maritime patrol off the coast of Barangay Bolong, Zamboanga City at about 12:45 PM on November 28, 2016, when they sighted a motorized pump boat ridden by two alleged members of Abu Sayyaf based in Zamboanga.

The two were allegedly conducting extortion activities on small-scale fishermen. The combined elements confronted the two individuals but they resisted and opened fire towards the authorities. A gun battle and chase ensued that lasted for about fifteen minutes. This resulted in the death of the two suspected ASG members identified as Amsarin Bandahala y Samlani and his brother Mubin Bandahala y Samlani. Recovered from the boat were a Colt cal .45 pistol with serial number 537632 loaded with four rounds of ammunition, a fragmentation grenade, cash, two sachets of suspected shabu, and drug paraphernalia. The seized items were taken into police custody while the dead suspects were brought by their immediate relatives to a funeral home for post-mortem examination.
