5 Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) Members Surrendered to PRO9

CAMP COL. ABENDAN, Zamboanga City – Five (5) members of the notorious Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) surrendered to Police Regional Office 9 and turned over their five (5) High Powered Firearms with several rounds of ammunitions and 2 fragmentation grenades at the PRO9 Regional Headquarters, Camp Romeo Abendan, Mercedes, Zamboanga City on July 18, 2019.

Police Brigadier General Froilan F Quidilla, PRO9 Director, identified the surrendered ASG members in their aliases as: AR-JUN, 21 years old, of Latih, Jolo, Sulu, holder of M14 firearm with 3 magazines; IT, 20 years old, of Barangay Suyak, Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan, holder of Colt M16 firearm with built in 40MM M203 grenade launcher; KHAIFAL, 23 years old, of Barangay Kabon on Katas, Patikul, Sulu, holder of M16 Elisco firearm with one magazine and 2 hand grenades; KHAP BOY, 29 years old, of Bagundan, Tipo-Tipo, Basilan, holder of Colt M16 with one magazine built in with M203 tube and 4 grenade launcher ammos; MAT, 33 years old, of Barangay Bagundan, Tipo-Tipo, Basilan, holder of Colt M16 with 2 magazines.

The Regional Director said that the 5 ASG members yielded through the joint efforts of to Police Lieutenant Colonel Parson J Asadil, Company Commander of Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company and the intelligence officers of 1IB, Tabak and 102 Brigade through the JPSCC mechanism. The continued campaign to convince ASG members to return to the fold of law and due to the pressures brought by relentless efforts of the Joint Peace and Security Control Center through the units of Police Regional Office 9 and its counterpart from the Armed Forces of the Philippine on the ground in neutralizing the dreaded Abu Sayyaf Group resulted in the surrender of the ASG members.

The ASG members were formally received by Police Brigadier General Froilan F Quidilla, PRO9 Director and Col. Jose Randolf Cino Cruz representing Brigadier General Roberto T Ancan Commander, 1st Infantry Division (Tabak) of Phil Army and Col. Leonel M. Nicolas of the Joint Tasked Force Zamboanga during the Regional Joint Peace and Security Control Center (RJPSCC) meeting held at PRO9 Conference Room, Camp Col Romeo A Abendan, Mercedes, Zamboanga City on July 18, 2019. They will be treated in the ASG returnees rehabilitation program of the Government to ensure that they will not go back to their old ways.

Meanwhile, Police Brigadier General Froilan F Quidilla is calling on the remaining ASG members across the region to turn themselves to the government where they will be given a chance to live a new life.
