US Justice Department to Train Hijab Troopers

Camp Col Romeo Abendan, Zamboanga City – Twenty-five female police officers from Police Regional Office 9 and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao participated in the 3-day Community Relations Team Course sponsored by the U. S Department of State - Bureau of Counter-Terrorism. This is in support to the initiative of PBGen Froilan F Quidilla, PRO9 Regional Director, of creating Hijab Troopers launched in June 2019 who are deployed in Zamboanga Peninsula as a symbol of diversity and unity in the area.

The module for the course was developed and will be taught by subject matter experts of the PNP and the U.S Department of Justice -International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP), where PMaj Helen L Galvez will serve as the lead instructor under the supervision of PMaj Eric L Orillaneda (Ret), ICITAP Mindanao Site Manager. This is to address the issue of counter-terrorism through the help of the female police officers engaged in the community and to enhance the capability and capacity of the police officers in community relations and partnership building and to be able to train other police officers in the region in community mobilization and organization.
