Camp Col Romeo A Abendan, Zamboanga City – The Police Regional Office 9 formally kicked-off the month-long celebration of the 25th Police Community Relations Month with the theme “Pinaigting na Ugnayan ng Mamamayan at Pulisya Laban sa Covid-19 Pandemya” during the Monday flag raising ceremony held at the Police Regional Office 9 Headquarters in Camp Col Romeo A Abendan, Mercedes, Zamboanga City on July 6, 2020.
The simple ceremony was led by Police Brigadier General Jesus D Cambay, Jr., Regional Director, PRO9 with Dir. Noemi B Edaga, Regional Director, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) – Western Mindanao as Guest of Honor and Speaker.
In her message, Dir. Edaga commended the valuable effort and contribution of PRO9 to the community across the region during the COVID-19 pandemic. “ang PNP ay nagging mga frontliners sa pagpapatupad ng peace and order during the community quarantine, nanguna din ang mga PNP sa pag-distribute ng relief goods sa mga residents apektado ng quarantine, ang PNP ay hindi ngkulangb sa pagpapaalala sa publiko ng health protocols na dapat sundin tulad ng pagsuot ng mask, physical distancing.”, she added.
The highlight of the activity was the giving of merit medals to deserving PNP personnel in recognition of their valuable contributions to the community during the pandemic:
- PCOL John G Guyguyon, Deputy Regional Director for Operations, PSSg Alsadar B Matarul, PSSg Mer-Sharif A Hadjula, both of Sindangan Municipal Police Station, given the Medalya ng Papuri for their exemplary performance and devotion to duty for extending medical, financial and transportation assistance to a sick child from Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte who was successfully treated at Zamboanga Peninsula Medical Center during the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine.
-PLTCOL Restuto A Pangusban, Company Commander and PSSg Idzhar M Tanjing, both of 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company, given the Medalya ng Papuri for their exemplary performance and devotion to duty for being part of the charitable act of distributing 235 sacks of rice to around 1,175 families of fisherman whose livelihood were greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic at Zamboanga Sibugay.
Several activities have been lined up for this year’s observances of PCR Month, such as online got talent competition, on the spot poster making contest and gift giving activity.
The observance of PCR Month is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 764 declaring July of every year as PCR Month, with the NAPOLCOM as the lead agency and the PNP as the implementing agency. Relatedly, the PCR month celebration is an opportune time to strengthen community participation in crime prevention. It is also serves as vehicle in forging stronger partnerships and community support in peacekeeping and public safety programs of the Philippine National Police.
