In the implementation of “Project Double Barrel”, for the period of July 1 to September 29, 2016, PRO9 was able to knock and visit a total of 103,344 houses in Zamboanga Peninsula. Out of this, 46,203 drug users and 1,976 drug pushers/couriers voluntarily surrendered to the authorities and vowed not to engage anymore in illegal drug dealings.
A sub-leader of the notorious Abu Sayyaf Group-Urban Terrorist Group (ASG-UTG) was arrested by combined elements of Zamboanga City Police Office, Regional Intelligence Division 9 (RID9), Regional Public Safety Battalion 9 and Special Action Force troopers during the conduct of a drug buy-bust operation at the vicinity of Plaza Pershing, I. Magno Street, Zamboanga City at around 12:00 noon on September 27, 2016.
PRO9 strongly condemns the recent killings of Hon. Marianita Agbonesa Pitogo, Barangay Chairwoman of Purok Durian, Lison Valley, Pagadian City and five others after they were ambushed by unidentified male suspects with the use of high caliber firearms at Purok Dumalian, Barangay Lourdez, Pagadian City at around 7:30 AM of September 13, 2016.
Intelligence personnel of Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), SWAT, Regional Public Safety Company 9 (RPSB9), Zamboanga City Police Station 7, Zamboanga City Police Station 11, and NISG conducted a law enforcement operation at the Motorpool in Brgy. Pasonanca, Zamboanga City at around 3:20 AM on September 9, 2016. The operation resulted in the arrest of Jamar Musa y Maing, 44, Ahmad Tandih y Lawisan, 33, and Omar Kumbing y Tandih, 36.
The PNP high command reminded all police units to strictly observe the prescribed Police Operational Procedures when conducting law enforcement operations, particularly when effecting arrests. The PNP Chief, echoed his own reminder to the 160,000-strong members of the PNP to supplement the clarification issued by Malacañang on the scope and limitations of the authority of the PNP and AFP under a state of emergency on account of lawless violence.
